Are You a Good Friend? Pt. 1

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Proverbs 18:24 KJV

Good morning, child of God. I want you to pay close and thoughtful attention to this morning devotion. This was not what I had originally planned to teach, but God laid this on my heart.

A man of God once said, “It is a disaster if you do not have at least one friend you can call for help in times of trouble — a friend who can reach out to your family when you’re out of town.”

But today, sir, the focus is on you. How many of your friends can reach out to you for help?

How many of your friends can call on you to help with an assignment when they’re out of town?

How many of your friends can call you to erect an immediate prayer altar on their behalf?

Because many times, we complain that we do not have good friends — but the real question is: EVEN YOU, are you a good friend?

Can you see that it is also a disaster if your friends cannot reach out to you for help in any way? If you cannot be a source of prayer and support for your friends?

Child of God, you complain too much about your friends — but are you not the same as them?

We must go back and place value first on ourselves; only then will that value begin to reflect in our friendships with others.

You do not tell the truth to your friends — how then do you expect them to be truthful?

You do nothing but watch TikTok and share social media links of worldly things with your friends. How then will they have a spiritual impact on your life?

You do not have a prayer life of your own, let alone one with your friends. Why then do you complain that you cannot reach them in times of spiritual attack?

Child of God, shine first and shine bright — be the kind of light you want to see in and with your friends.

Be a good friend. It all starts with you.

Let me round off with this: The same things you are complaining about in your friends — they are also complaining about you.

What then shall we do with these complaints?

Good morning once again.
