Are You a Good Friend? (Pt. 4)

“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

— Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV)

Good morning, God’s people. We’ve been on a series about friendship, with the main focus being on YOU. The question remains: Are you a good friend?

Let’s journey together again this morning, and I pray the Lord gives us understanding, in Jesus’ mighty name.

I’d like to begin today’s teaching with a quote that says:

“In prosperity, our friends know us; in adversity, we know our friends.”

Child of God, there will be days of adversity, even among friends. There will be days when things get tough, when your friends hit rock bottom, when they sincerely and genuinely can’t do anything on their own.

My question is: What have you done for your friends on those days?

Many of us today claim to be friends with certain individuals, but on the days when we’re supposed to hold their hands and help them stand, we withdraw, saying, “I can’t be associated with someone like that.”

But sir, when everything was going well and smooth, you were everywhere—taking the front seat at their celebrations and claiming to be their best friend.

I put it to you: You are not a good friend.

Let me tell you something, sir. In this generation, you often hear people say, “I’m a friend to everybody.”

I put it to you, sir: You are not sincere.

As the popular saying goes:

“A friend to all is a friend to none.”

Some of us only show up in people’s lives during the good and pleasant times—appearing as friends when it’s easy, then disappearing when adversity hits.

If you are someone like this, please repent.

I expect more from all of us—starting with ourselves. We cannot keep complaining about how bad our friends are when we, ourselves, are a major part of the problem.

This generation has become one where a problem is calling out another problem. No one wants to change. No one wants to be the solution.

Child of God, be God’s sustaining hand in your relationships with your friends.

Are you a good friend?

Good morning once again. 🙏🏽
