DOMINION

UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF DOMINION

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26 (KJV)

Good morning God’s people, welcome to the month of Dominion. We will start a series on dominion this morning and we would trust the lord to help us mightily in Jesus name.

Child of God, Dominion is one of the greatest privileges God gave to man at creation. Before man ever asked God for anything, God had already given him AN ASSIGNMENT , AN IDENTITY , and AN AUTHORITY.

When God created man, He did not create him to be a victim of circumstances, a slave to the things around him, or someone who would be controlled by everything he encountered. He created man with the capacity and responsibility to exercise dominion.

This means that dominion was not originally man’s idea; it is God’s intention for man, it is God’s intention for us as BELIEVERS.

However, one important question we must answer is: If God has given man dominion, why do many people live as though they have no authority over the things that confront them?

The answer begins with understanding what dominion truly means, where it comes from, and how it is expected to operate in the life of a believer. Stay with me, it will be a Journey of learning and becoming

  1. DOMINION IS GOD’S ORIGINAL MANDATE FOR MAN
    Genesis 1:26–28

Child of God, Dominion was not something man struggled to acquire; it was something God deliberately gave him.

Notice that God did not first create man and then leave him to figure out his purpose. He created man and immediately established his authority and responsibility over creation.

This reveals that man was created for more than existence. He was created to represent God’s authority and exercise responsibility over what God had placed under his care.

As believers, we must understand that we were not created merely to survive life; we were created to fulfil God’s purpose and exercise the authority He has entrusted to us.

2). DOMINION IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF CHALLENGES, BUT THE AUTHORITY TO RISE ABOVE THEM
Romans 8:37

Having dominion does not mean that a believer will never encounter difficulties, opposition, or challenges. It means that those challenges must not become the ultimate authority over the life of that believer. Are you with me?

Jesus never promised that we would have no tribulations, but he assured us that he has overcome the world (John 16:33).

A man walking in dominion may encounter storms, but the storm does not determine his destination. He may face opposition, but opposition does not have the final say over his purpose.

Dominion is not a life without battles; it is a life where battles do not have the final authority.

3). DOMINION BEGINS WITH UNDERSTANDING WHO YOU ARE IN GOD
John 1:12

One of the greatest hindrances to exercising dominion is ignorance of one’s identity.

You cannot confidently exercise an authority you do not understand. Read that again!!!

When a believer does not understand his position in Christ, he will most likely continually live beneath the privileges and responsibilities of his spiritual identity.

The authority of a believer does not come from self confidence, physical strength, or human ability. It comes from his relationship with God.

Until you understand who you are in Christ, you will continue to surrender to things you have been empowered by God to overcome.

4). DOMINION COMES WITH RESPONSIBILITY
Luke 12:48

Dominion is not permission to live carelessly or exercise control over other people. It is a responsibility to manage what God has entrusted to you according to his will.

God gave Adam dominion over creation, not permission to become disobedient to the Creator. Do you understand this?

This teaches us that true dominion must operate under God’s authority. A man cannot claim to exercise dominion while deliberately living in rebellion against the One who gave him that authority, or against the ones that God has placed over them as Leaders

The higher the responsibility, the greater the demand for accountability.

5). DOMINION MUST BE EXERCISED, NOT MERELY UNDERSTOOD
James 2:17

Knowing that God has given you authority is not enough; you must learn to walk in that authority.

A believer who knows the word but refuses to act upon it may continue to live beneath what God has made available to him.

We exercise dominion through faith, obedience, prayer, the application of God’s word, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.

DOMINION IS NOT A SLOGAN WE JUST CONFESS, IT IS OUR REALITY.

Good morning THE BELIEVER
THIS IS THE LIFE WE MUST LIVE.
