“In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike will be good.” Ecclesiastes 11:6 NKJV
The writer of Ecclesiastes, often referred to as the Teacher, encourages us to live lives of diligent effort and trust in God’s providence. This verse is a beautiful reminder of two key principles: our responsibility to act faithfully and God’s sovereignty over the results.
Sow Diligently
The verse begins with a call to action: “In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand.” This instruction speaks to perseverance and a willingness to work consistently.
Life often brings uncertainty, and we cannot always predict the outcomes of our efforts. Yet, God calls us to move forward in faith, sowing seeds of kindness, love, hard work, and faithfulness.
Whether in ministry, family, work, or relationships, we are to give our best without hesitation or procrastination.
Trust in God’s Timing
The second half of the verse reminds us of the mystery of God’s plan: “For you do not know which will prosper, either this or that, or whether both alike will be good.”
While we are called to act, the outcome is not within our control. Some seeds may bear fruit immediately, others later, and some in ways we might never see. This uncertainty invites us to lean on God, trusting that He will bring forth fruit in His time and according to His purposes.
Action Points
• Be Faithful in Small Things: Every day is an opportunity to sow seeds, whether through a kind word, a prayer, or an act of service. Don’t underestimate the impact of small, faithful acts.
• Persevere Despite Uncertainty: Even when you don’t see immediate results, trust that God is working. Keep planting, trusting that your labor is not in vain.
• Surrender the Results: Remember, the harvest is in God’s hands. Release the need to control the outcomes and trust in His perfect wisdom and timing.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the reminder that You are the one who brings fruit from our labor. Help us to be diligent and faithful in sowing seeds of love, grace, and truth in every area of our lives.
Give us the perseverance to keep going, even when we do not see the results we hope for. May our efforts glorify You and bring forth a harvest in Your perfect time in the name of Jesus. Amen.
