Proverbs 27:17 NLT
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
The scripture that iron sharpens iron is a very popular one, so popular that many believe that just godly relationships and associations is good enough to get sharpened. This is a step towards getting sharpened but in itself will not get you sharpened.
Iron does not sharpen iron by sitting next to it, smiling at it or laying with it. Iron sharpens iron by being struck against it, clashing with it, this is how sharpening happens.
If you want to sharpen your knife, you make It to clash, you strike it against anything that can make it sharper.
If your friends must sharpen you, you must be ready to allow them to confront you with the truth of God’s word.
Your friends must be able to clash with you when you start going off track
Your friends must be able to correct you, instruct you and guide you in righteousness.
Do not say iron sharpens iron when you are listening to nobody, you are not yet ready for the sharpening.
There is so much you will do when you deliberately submit yourself to be sharpened by people of God sound in character and doctrine !
Till we arrive at the point of the full manifestation of what God has said concerning us, we will continue to share some of these things as we journey.
