“For example, God’s prophet Elijah was an ordinary person, as we are. He prayed to God that it would not rain. He continued to pray and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.” James‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ ‭EASY‬‬

Sometimes we often think that men who God answers their prayers always are special anointed men of God. Yes, they are anointed, but they are mostly if not all, men of prayer.

If you are privileged to get close to some of these people, you will know how much time they spend in the place of prayer. Our opening text revealed that Elijah whom we know as a Prophet was an ordinary man like you and I, and yet, he singlehandedly held a nation ransom by shutting heaven from sending rain for three and half years.

Most versions of the Bible just says that he prayed and it did not rain for three and half years, but I love how this edition put it. He prayed to God that it should not rain, God answered, but he did not stop the prayer that day, he continued to pray again and again and again.

My Bishop said in one of his teachings, that you have gotten your answered prayers should never be the reason you now stop praying, he said. It is with the same intensity you have prayed to receive it, you should also intensify so as to sustain your answered prayers.

You prayed to God for a husband or wife for example, and you finally got married then you stopped praying because you think it is all settled, that would be the beginning of the end of that marriage because the source for which you got your spouse, you have neglected. It is with the same intensity you prayed to get your partner that you will continue in to sustain your marriage. Same applies to any other area of your life you have or are praying for.

Prayer.

Holy Spirit, help me to sustain the fire on my prayer altar even after I have gotten my requests in Jesus name.
