Good morning, God’s people.

We have been looking at living a life of contentment and the reasons why we need to live that way. I have shared two reasons with you. This morning, let me share the remaining three.

WHY DO WE NEED TO LIVE A LIFE OF CONTENTMENT? (Cont’d)

3. So that you will not sin against God.

Philippians 2:14 (NKJV)

Child of God, if you do not learn to live a life of contentment, you will complain, murmur, and sin against God.

Numbers 21:5–6 (NKJV)

The Bible records that Israel made a vow to God. He heard them, delivered them, and was leading them around Mount Edom. Yet, the Bible says they murmured and spoke against God, who had just delivered them. They said He should have left them in Egypt instead of bringing them out. God heard this and sent fiery serpents among them, and many Israelites died.

Child of God, discontentment makes you ungrateful to God and leads to murmuring, which can cause you to sin against God and kindle His anger against you and your generation.

One problem with many believers is that we are never content and we complain too much, yet the mercy of God continues to speak for us.

I DECREE OVER YOUR LIFE: MAY IT NEVER BE HEARD OR SEEN THAT YOU NO LONGER ENJOY THE MERCY OF GOD, IN JESUS’ NAME.

4. It brings peace.

Philippians 4:6–7 (NKJV)

Child of God, the formula is prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.

“GRATITUDE IS YOUR STRENGTH IN LIVING A LIFE OF CONTENTMENT.”

A contented believer knows that prayer with thanksgiving should be their immediate response whenever they have a need. The promise in the next verse is “THE PEACE OF GOD, WHICH SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING.”

5. Contentment is ZOE.

Child of God, this is our year of the life of God, and you cannot maximise this year without contentment.

In the book of Genesis, the Bible records that every time God saw what He had made, He declared that it was good. This shows that God was satisfied with His work and trusted what He had made without doubt. If contentment reflects the life of God, what are you waiting for?

No wonder our yearly declaration is:

Acts 17:28 (NKJV)

“FOR IN HIM WE LIVE AND MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING, AS ALSO SOME OF YOUR OWN POETS HAVE SAID, ‘FOR WE ARE ALSO HIS OFFSPRING.’”

Child of God, I know you truly love the Lord, but if you must sustain your relationship with Him and endure in the economy of God’s Kingdom, you must learn to live a life of contentment. As you now know, this is living the life of God.
