“When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God [had compassion and] relented concerning the disaster which He had declared that He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.” — Jonah 3:10 (AMP)
There is a powerful truth hidden in the book of Jonah that many today desperately need to hear: God is full of mercy, but His mercy is poured out upon those who repent. When the people of Nineveh heard Jonah’s warning, they did not argue, delay, or make excuses. They humbled themselves immediately, turned from their sin, and cried out to God—and because of their sincere repentance, God withheld the judgment they rightly deserved.
Today, this same opportunity stands before you.
The truth is clear: there is judgment coming. God, in His holiness, will not turn a blind eye to sin forever. Many are lulled into a false security, thinking there will always be more time to change, to repent, to get serious about the things of God. But listen carefully—there is not always more time.
God is watching. He sees your deeds. He knows whether your heart is truly surrendered to Him or if you are still clinging to sin, pride, bitterness, lust, or rebellion.
And right now, He is offering you mercy. But that mercy is not automatic—it is for those who turn from their wicked ways. Just as He relented from destroying Nineveh when they repented, He is ready to relent from bringing judgment on you. But you must repent.
Repentance is not a feeling of guilt or a fleeting regret. It is a deliberate turning away from sin and a wholehearted return to God. It is surrender. It is obedience. It is faith expressed in action.
Today is your chance. Not tomorrow. Not later. Now.
Do not presume upon the mercy of God, thinking you can put it off until it suits you. His Spirit will not always strive with man (Genesis 6:3). If you are feeling conviction now, it is because God, in His great kindness, is calling you to repentance while there is still time.
Fall to your knees. Cry out to Him. Turn from every known sin. Seek His forgiveness with a sincere heart.
And just as He did for Nineveh, He will do for you—He will have compassion. He will wash you clean. He will relent from the disaster that sin would have brought into your life.
But you must come now.
Prayer:
“Father, I recognize that I have sinned against You. I have walked in my own ways, ignoring Your warnings and Your love. Today, I repent. I turn away from my wicked ways, and I turn fully to You. Please have mercy on me, forgive me, and restore me. Teach me to walk in Your truth and obedience from this day forward. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
