Mouth-Watering Hunger: Desire

“Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘Lord, help me!’ But He answered and said, ‘It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.’ And she said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.’ Then Jesus answered and said to her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.’ And her daughter was healed from that very hour.” Matthew 15:25–28 (NKJV)

There is something about desire that, practically speaking, no obstacle can stop you from getting what you truly want. It is a strong passion that pushes a person to go the extra mile just to find satisfaction.

In our passage, this woman comes to Jesus asking Him to deliver her daughter from demonic possession. Jesus heard her crying, yet He said nothing at first. It seemed as though He ignored her completely.

The disciples, noticing the commotion she was causing, urged Jesus to send her away. Many people today find themselves in the same position — they’ve prayed, they’ve cried out to God for the desires of their hearts, and it feels like heaven is silent. If it were you asking someone for help and they ignored you as if you didn’t exist, would you press on or walk away in anger?

When Jesus finally responded, His words were challenging: Why should I heal your daughter? You’re not a Jew. You’re not an heir of Abraham. Healing is for the children — the heirs of the promise.

Child of God, healing is your inheritance. It is one of your advantages in Christ Jesus.

Sickness is not permitted in your body. Stand your ground and cast it out by faith!

The desire of this woman to see her daughter free was unshakable. There was no turning back. She pressed in even more, responding, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”

You see, when our General Superintendent, the Bishop, says, “What prayer can’t do, more prayer will do,” some may think it’s just a motivational phrase. But that’s exactly what this woman demonstrated in action.

If your desire is strong enough — grounded in righteousness — you will receive what you seek.

Don’t stop pressing.

Don’t stop knocking.

Don’t stop praying.

Be resilient like this woman. Though she was not an Israelite, her unwavering desire moved Jesus to answer her and set her daughter free.
