“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.””
1 Peter 5:5 NIV
It’s another day the Lord has made and we shall rejoice and be glad in it. Just go ahead and say thank you Jesus for this brand new day.
This current generation kind of find it hard now to submit to our elders. They defend their arrogance with lots of English and civilisation. They now talk to elderly people just anyhow as it suits them.
Some have even forgotten how to greet an elderly person, they just walk by or to the person as though they were mate. Just because some are a little fortunate than others, they talk down on just anybody.
We are quite familiar with the story of David and King Saul. Despite everything King Saul did abusing his post as a king to kill David, he never protested or speak ill back, even though he knew what King Saul was doing to kill him. The respect and submission David had did not end when King Saul died, but continued in his demise. This submission was pure to the extent that anyone who speak ill of Saul in David’s presence will have David to contend with.
To what extent would our elders derail or err that we would instantly withdraw our honour for them? Let’s put on humility as a garment everyday, everywhere we go.
“Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”
1 Peter 2:17 NIV
The world teaches that respect is earned and not given freely, but I have come to tell you today that the Bible teaches that we ought to respect others, not because they’ve earned it, but because God respects each one of us and commands us to do the same. Notice in 1Peter2:17, no pre-requisite conditions or restrictions were given as to who to respect.
Do not be biased with respect, do not insult a bus conductor or driver and say you respect pilots. Always show proper respect to all, young or old, great or small.
PRAYER
Say; Father, endow me with a humble spirit and help me to show proper respect to everyone irrespective of status in Jesus name. Amen
