THE MAN WHO IS AVAILABLE
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” — Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)
One of the things God looks for in a man is availability. God is not merely looking for people with great abilities, impressive qualifications, or influential connections; He also looks for people who are willing to make themselves available for his use.
Throughout Scripture, we see God working through ordinary people who were willing to obey his instructions. Moses was a shepherd when God called him. David was tending sheep when Samuel anointed him. The disciples were ordinary men whom Jesus called to follow him and their stories remind us that your availability to God can become the starting point of a journey you never imagined.
Many people want God to use them, but they are not always willing to make time for him. They desire the platform but avoid the preparation. They want to be recognised but are unwilling to serve when nobody is watching.
The question is not merely whether you have the ability to do something for God, but whether you are willing to surrender yourself to his purpose. Are you??
Let me list a few things that you should understand
1). GOD IS LOOKING FOR A MAN WHO IS WILLING
Isaiah did not begin by listing his qualifications or explaining why someone else would be better suited for the assignment. He made himself available.
This is an important lesson for anyone who desires to be used by God. Sometimes, we focus so much on what we lack that we forget the importance of a willing heart.
You may not know everything, but you can be willing to learn. You may not have everything you need, but you can be willing to obey God’s instructions.
God can work through a willing person who is ready to follow His direction.
2). YOUR AVAILABILITY TO GOD WITHOUT QUESTIONS
Isaiah made himself available without first knowing every detail of the assignment ahead of him. Isaiah heard the voice of the lord and he said “HERE I AM, SEND ME”. Not knowing whether would be convenient or not. As long as it is God. He was available
This teaches us that serving God may sometimes require us to move beyond our comfort zones.
There are people who want to serve God only when it is convenient. They are available when they have nothing else to do, but when sacrifice is required, they withdraw.
However, genuine availability means being willing to make room for God’s purpose in your life.
It may mean giving your time to prayer, serving faithfully in church, helping someone in need, or accepting a responsibility that requires discipline and commitment. You must understand that being available does not mean neglecting your health, family, or legitimate responsibilities. It means arranging your priorities so that serving God is not continually pushed aside.
A man who is available to God must be willing to obey even when obedience requires sacrifice.
3). GOD CAN USE AN ORDINARY MAN WHO MAKES HIMSELF AVAILABLE
1 Samuel 16:11–13 (KJV)
When Samuel visited Jesse’s household to anoint the next king of Israel, David was initially absent because he was tending the sheep.
David did not occupy a position of public prominence at the time. He was performing an ordinary responsibility, yet God had chosen him for an extraordinary assignment. David’s story reminds us that our present position does not determine the full extent of what God can accomplish through our lives.
You do not have to be the most popular person in your church to serve God. You do not need to have the greatest title before you can make a difference.
What matters is that you remain faithful where you are and willing to respond when God gives you an opportunity. Do not despise small beginnings. Serve faithfully with what you have, develop your gifts, and remain teachable.
Your present assignment may appear small, but faithfulness in the little things matters to God.
AVAILABILITY MUST BE SUPPORTED BY OBEDIENCE
1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV)
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
It is possible to say that you are available to God but still refuse to follow His instructions. Do you understand??
True availability is more than making a declaration; it is demonstrated through obedience. A person may volunteer for responsibilities in church but refuse correction. Another may desire to preach but neglect the study of God’s Word. Someone else may ask God for a ministry but refuse to serve faithfully in the responsibilities already given to them.
God desires more than our words. He desires hearts that are willing to follow His instructions.
When you make yourself available to God, be willing to learn, accept correction, and carry out your responsibilities faithfully. Do not merely tell God that you are available; demonstrate your availability through obedience.
Child of God, God is still looking for people who are willing to answer his call. You may not have everything figured out, and you may not feel fully qualified, but do not allow your limitations to become an excuse for refusing to obey Him.
Make yourself available. Remain faithful in the little things. Be willing to learn, grow, and follow God’s direction.
Sometimes, the first step toward being used by God is not proving how much you can do, but surrendering yourself and saying, “Here am I; send me.” Do you get this?
