THE LIFTER OF MEN

THE CHARACTER THAT SUSTAINS LIFTING

“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1 (KJV)

There are people who prayed for the doors they are now walking through, but after those doors opened, they forgot the principles that brought them there. Some received opportunities they had long desired, only to lose them because they lacked the character to manage their new position.

Child of God, elevation may bring you before great men, but character determines how well you stand when you get there. God is not only concerned about lifting you; He also wants to build you into someone who can handle the responsibilities, influence, and blessings that come with that lifting.

Child of God, what character traits must a man possess to remain lifted?

1). HUMILITY

Proverbs 16:18 (KJV)
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

One of the greatest dangers of elevation is pride. When a man begins to experience success, he may forget the God who helped him and the people who stood by him.

Consider King Uzziah. He became strong, but when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction (2 Chronicles 26:16).

Never allow your position to make you feel superior to others. Your strategy must be “THE HIGHER GOD TAKES YOU, THE MORE DEPENDENT ON HIM YOU SHOULD BECOME”.

The character that sustains lifting is the humility to remember God even when things are going well.

2). INTEGRITY

Proverbs 10:9 (KJV)
“He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”

A man may rise through opportunities, but dishonesty can destroy what took years to build. Integrity means doing what is right even when nobody is watching and refusing to compromise your values for temporary benefits. I leant this pratically from the General superintendent

We can also see this through scripture; Joseph demonstrated this when he refused to commit sin with Potiphar’s wife, even when he could have acted secretly.

Never exchange your character for an opportunity. What you gain through compromise may eventually cost you more than you imagined.

IT IS BETTER TO LOSE AN OPPORTUNITY THAN TO LOSE THE CHARACTER THAT MAKES YOU WORTHY OF GREATER OPPORTUNITIES.

3). FAITHFULNESS

1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

God expects faithfulness from everyone he entrusts with responsibilities. David was faithful while tending sheep before he became king, and Joseph remained dependable while serving in Potiphar’s house and in prison.

Do not become careless because you have achieved a measure of success. Continue to honour your responsibilities, keep your commitments, and serve faithfully in every season.

THE MAN WHO WANTS TO REMAIN LIFTED MUST NOT ABANDON THE FAITHFULNESS THAT PREPARED HIM FOR LIFTING.

4). GRATITUDE
One of the things that can destroy a man’s lifting is the inability to remain grateful. Sometimes, when people move to a higher level, they forget the little beginnings, the people God used to help them, and the sacrifices that brought them to where they are.

King Nebuchadnezzar became proud and attributed his greatness to his own power. His experience teaches us the danger of taking God’s glory for ourselves.

Never allow your present position to make you forget your past. Appreciate God for where he has brought you from, acknowledge the people he has used to help you, and remain thankful even when you are trusting Him for greater things.

THE MAN WHO WANTS TO REMAIN LIFTED MUST NEVER FORGET THE GOD WHO LIFTED HIM. NEVER SIR!!!

5). DISCIPLINE AND PRAYER

Child of God, Elevation comes with responsibilities, and sustaining it requires discipline. A man who lacks discipline may misuse the opportunities, time, resources, and influence God has placed in his hands.

Daniel understood the importance of discipline and prayer. Even when a decree was made against prayer, he continued to pray to God as he had always done. His consistency in prayer was not dependent on favourable circumstances.

Do not allow success weaken your prayer life or make you careless with your spiritual responsibilities. Develop the discipline to manage your time, control your desires, remain consistent in your walk with God, and have a strong prayer altar
