“If you keep talking, it won’t be long before you’re saying something really wrong. Prove you’re wise from the very start—just bite your tongue and be strong!”
— Proverbs 10:19 (TPT)
Today, we continue the series on the Wisdom of God as we look at SPEAKING LESS. I will highlight a few points in CAPITAL LETTERS for emphasis.
Words are the most powerful thing in the universe, and if you don’t speak them with the wisdom of God, you can destroy lives.
Before you speak, let your words pass through these three gates:
1. Is it true?
2. Is it necessary?
3. Is it kind?
• MANY BELIEVERS HAVE NOT ESCAPED THE PROBLEMS THAT SPEAKING TOO MUCH HAS CAUSED THEM.
• MANY BELIEVERS HAVE NOT RECOVERED WHAT THEY LOST BECAUSE OF SPEAKING TOO MUCH.
• MANY BELIEVERS HAVE PUT OTHERS IN SITUATIONS THEY CANNOT RESOLVE BECAUSE OF SPEAKING TOO MUCH.
• MANY BELIEVERS HAVE BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MEN BECAUSE OF SPEAKING TOO MUCH.
Sir, I must tell you this morning: if you speak too much, you truly do not possess the wisdom of God.
When you don’t possess God’s wisdom in your words, you will soon become a weapon of destruction in the hands of the devil.
One reason God has not spoken to you, or does not speak to you often, is because YOU SPEAK TOO MUCH.
It is dangerous to confide in someone who does not have the wisdom of God to speak.
Some people have lost their relationship with God, their prayer life, and their spiritual stand because of your unwise speaking. Just because you know something does not mean you should say it. It does not mean you should not find God’s way of communicating things.
Some of you, the devil now knows so much about you because you have spoken so much about yourself. Can you see, sir, that you are your own first enemy?
Ask God for His wisdom to speak and to speak less, sir, because if everyone went around speaking like some of us do, the church and the body of Christ would soon be divided.
Some of you speak details that are true but unnecessary. If you truly had the wisdom of God, you would know:
• WHEN TO SPEAK
• HOW TO SPEAK
• WHAT TO SPEAK ABOUT
• HOW LONG TO SPEAK
We pray, “God, kill our enemies. Kill the enemies of the church.” But believe me, sir, if you don’t take time, you might soon become one of them, because whoever speaks too much is an enemy of God and an enemy of the church.
Ask God to forgive you for unwise speaking. Ask Him to save you and others who are still in trouble because of your words.
Pray for the wisdom of God to speak.
