He who walks [as a companion] with wise men will be wise, but the companions of [conceited, dull-witted] fools [are fools themselves and] will experience harm. Proverbs 13:20 (AMP)
Let me begin by saying this: someone will realize after today’s devotion that the only reason they have not had a great 2024 is because of the wrong associations.
One of the most expensive mistakes you could ever make is paying attention to the wrong association.
Many of you are in relationships and friendships that you should have ended. Many people today are paying the price for these wrong associations, yet they hesitate to take action because they don’t want to be seen as “bad.” But gradually, their lives are deteriorating.
We need the wisdom of God to form the right associations and to separate ourselves from the wrong ones. Many people know deep down that their current companions could ruin what God has planned for them, yet they choose not to take the necessary steps.
Associations are powerful, and this is why we need God’s wisdom. Many of you were once visionary individuals, set on achieving great things, until you joined the wrong association. These relationships may have derailed your moral compass and plunged you into laziness and mediocrity.
The Bible warns us, “Do not be deceived: bad company corrupts good manners” (1 Corinthians 15:33). So, child of God, you need God’s wisdom when it comes to associations. It is often said, “We are the average of the people we spend the most time with.” If there are six people in a group, and five of them are foolish, the sixth one is at risk of becoming just like them.
You might think, “The fact that I walk with them doesn’t mean I’m like them.” But, sir or ma’am, it’s only a matter of time. Your identity is already being shaped by them, just as Proverbs 13:20 tells us.
Many of you are under influences that do not align with God’s purpose for your life, and God is sending me to you this morning to encourage you to make the necessary changes.
Take a moment to evaluate your friendships. Be honest with yourself and ask: are these relationships helping or hindering your destiny? It takes the wisdom of God to be sincere with yourself and to take action.
Be in the right association.
Good morning, and happy Friday!
