Yielding to the Word and to Prayer

Hebrews 12:11 (KJV)

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

In the verse above, chastening can be likened to training.

Forgoing certain pleasures and letting some things go for the sake of the gospel is not always easy, but it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness. Have you noticed that it is often easier to watch Netflix, Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, and other forms of entertainment for long periods than it is to pray or study the Word?

The flesh does not enjoy the things of the Spirit, but when we persist, growth takes place.

Studies have shown that what you consistently give your time to is what you become. As believers, if you spend your time in prayer and in the Word, you become a man or woman of prayer and the Word.

However, if you spend your time on the things of the flesh, you become a man or woman of the flesh.

Therefore, I urge us as believers to devote time to the Word and to prayer. It may not be enjoyable at the beginning, but as you remain consistent, you will develop spiritual stamina and grow stronger in your walk with God.

Prayer:

My Father and my God, help me to spend time studying Your Word and in prayer. Keep me from giving in to the desires of the flesh, and strengthen me to delight in the things of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
